Glass Half Full?

We’ve all heard the saying “See the glass as half full, and then fill it the rest of the way” or something along those lines.

What this really means is to see things in a positive light. While this may not always feel possible, there are several ways to go about this.

  • Make the most of every situation

Things will not always go as planned in life or how you want them to go. Sometimes you’ll even hit a rough spot. The importance after hitting this rough spot is being able to pick yourself back up and move past it. Instead of focusing on what went wrong, focus on what went right. This positive outlook will help make every situation feel better. If you have to, fake it ’till you make it. I guarantee it’ll end up helping you in the long run.

  • Go into things without expectations

This idea first rested within me when my brother mentioned that he prefers to go into a movie theatre without knowing anything about the movie he is about to see- no previews, no reviews. Because of this, it is less disappointing if the movie didn’t live up to what he thought. Have you ever seen a movie or read a book that sounded amazing and you left the theatre or closed the back cover feeling disappointed? This is because you had expectations. Going into things without expectations means you won’t leave feeling unfulfilled. Instead, you’ll be focusing on what you enjoyed rather than what you thought would have been better.

  • Focus on the good

There’s always a way to find the good in something. Just adjust the way you think about things and focus on what is good about the situation you are in. This won’t be easy at first, but if you dedicate time and effort you will really start to see a change. Things will only be negative if you make them that way!

  • Adjust your attitude

Whether you saw something coming or not, try to catch yourself when you’re in a bad attitude. Stop yourself before you say anything hurtful and adjust your attitude to something more positive. Instead of being bummed about a change in plans, embrace what will be good about the new plan. Just because something doesn’t go your way doesn’t mean that it’ll be boring or upsetting. You never know, you might actually end up surprised with how much fun you ended up having!

  • Play off of those around you

Often times when you’re around a Negative Nelly, then you’ll feel negative yourself. Quite the opposite, when you’re around a Positive Paul you are more likely to feel positive. With this said, surround yourself with those who make you happy. These people have already adapted a positive lifestyle which will help you adapt this positive lifestyle as well. Of course everyone has their moments, but who really makes you happy? Go spend some time with them!
