As I was on my way to work this morning, I noticed a gun range that I pass by each time I take that route. It’s about 5 minutes down the road from my job location and I’ve noticed it’s curbside appeal (I’m being serious) and modern look before. After I got home, I decided to look it up on the interwebs. We all get ourselves into the rabbit hole of the internet at some point or another.
As I was scrolling I saw how they pride themselves on being the best range in Missouri and how they have wonderful simulators that help you with your accuracy and overall skill before you are even old enough to get your hands on a real gun of your own. No, the website didn’t say it like that exactly, but it did say it was “fun for all ages” or something to that extent. I was curious what exactly this simulator was. Was it like a more advanced version of a shoot-to-kill video game? I scrolled down further on their page and saw youtube videos linked of people at their site trying them out. There are various situations and settings on this site, but one stuck out to me specifically.. I’ll link it towards the bottom of this page. First, I want to take you through this before you watch it yourself.
The first thing that I noticed was that it was called “auditorium“. This caught my attention… what exactly are they going for here? Then, I noticed how it was set up very similar to any university’s large lecture halls. Red flag? I think so. You then, as the shooter, peak around the corner and walk slowly into the lecture hall, peak around the entrance, and start shooting. The game is set up as if the people, most realistically students, are being held hostage and one of them is another shooter.
I’m sorry.. but…
What the ACTUAL F*&#
You’d think in todays world people would be more sensitive about school shootings. Luckily even people in the video (click here to view) say at the end that maybe that wasn’t one that they should be doing. I can’t believe that there would be a range that allows people to practice things like that. While some of the videos include some things that are probably helpful self-defense, that is like none other. I hate to think that people might actually go there to practice things like auditorium shootings… That ranges are offering that opportunity to learn. It deeply saddens me to think that some still aren’t seeing the problems with guns that our society faces today. I’m not the kind of person who thinks no one should have a gun. In fact, I’ve wanted to go to a shooting range myself several times before to experience it at least once. But I can say for sure that I will not be going there.
Not now. Not ever.
